Connie, a Resident Manager at Niagara Retirement Manor in St. Catharines, ON, has come into contact with many different senior residents over the course of her Skyline career. One of those residents, a man named Billy, particularly impacted Connie and was the source of inspiration for her entry into the Skyline Acts of Kindness contest.
“[With the $500], I would buy some groceries for seniors that do not get to eat three meals a day if at all,” said Connie. “When you give [our senior residents] something, it feels like you have given them the world. Our seniors today are very limited to get out to go to food banks, and some have nobody to help them.”
As a contest winner, Connie received $500 from Skyline to make her act of kindness a reality. She took Billy shopping for food and clothes, as well as a special lunch date. She also gifted several other seniors in the residence with grocery gift cards so they could buy the food they needed.
“The seniors involved felt overwhelmed,” said Connie. “It amazed me how my act of kindness, thanks to the caring of all involved at Skyline, manifested itself again and again as the seniors themselves showed their gratitude by paying it forward to others in their community. We have made several people feel cared for and not forgotten.”
