On Wednesday, September 4th, 2019, the Skyline Marketing team got their hands dirty to help make Wellington County, ON a little greener.
The team spent the day volunteering at the Green Legacy Wellington tree nursery in Puslinch, ON. They were put to work trimming unwanted growth from White Spruce planting pots, to ensure that the healthiest plant absorbs the nutrients it needs to grow.
The Marketing team also had the chance to tour the Green Legacy greenhouses and learn about how the nursery’s trees benefit soil, water, and wildlife conservation, enhance crop production, and create natural windbreaks and living “snow fences” that protect our roads from winter snowdrifts.
The Green Legacy program was launched in 2004, and is now the largest municipal tree planting program in North America. As noted on its website, by 2016 Green Legacy had planted 2 million trees in Wellington County.
Skyline as a company has a responsibility to ensure it is practicing sustainability. Through the Skyline Volunteer Day initiative, every Skyline staff member receives one paid volunteer day per year, so they can spend a day helping with a non-profit company or initiative that makes our communities stronger –or greener.
Volunteering for green initiatives like the Green Legacy program is an impactful way to conserve our environment, and preserve quality of life, for future generations. Opportunities to volunteer are open to the public – from individuals, to large groups.
