Skyline’s CSO receives award for charity volunteerism
R. Jason Ashdown, Co-Founder & Chief Sustainability Officer, was recently awarded Volunteer of the Year from Shelldale Family Gateway.

R. Jason Ashdown, Co-Founder & Chief Sustainability Officer, Skyline Group of Companies, recently received the Volunteer of the Year award for 2021 from Shelldale Family Gateway, one of Skyline Group of Companies’ key charity partners in Guelph, ON. Shelldale Family Gateway provides programs and specialized services designed to support children, youth, and families in Guelph’s Onward Willow Neighbourhood (in which Shelldale Family Gateway is located).
The Volunteer of the Year award, presented annually during National Volunteer Week, is given to a community member who represents the mission of Shelldale Family Gateway, makes a substantial positive impact on behalf of the organization, and contributes to the betterment of the Shelldale Family Gateway community. The winner is selected each year by vote among all Shelldale Family Gateway staff.
“Jason’s presence on the Board of Directors for Shelldale provided us with the leadership and guidance that was needed to help us navigate some of the tricky times we all find ourselves in these days,” said Diana Boal, Executive Director, Shelldale Family Gateway.
“But it wasn’t just his work on the Board: Jason has consistently gone above and beyond in helping children, youth and families in the Onward Willow Neighbourhood in various ways. He has volunteered at Winter Warm Up, he has generously contributed to our Christmas gift program, and he has provided excellent advice and thoughtful ideas to our Board that have helped us enormously. We are thrilled to give Jason this award and thank him for everything he has contributed to making Shelldale Family Gateway the amazing community hub it is.”
Skyline is proud to have its team members recognized in the community for their volunteer efforts. It continues to offer its Skyline Volunteer Day program to each of its 900+ staff members across Canada, providing one paid work day per year for staff to volunteer at a non-profit organization of their choice.
Additionally, as part of its 2021 Sustainability Plan objectives, Skyline aims to reach 100% employee usage of its Volunteer Day program. This would provide an additional 7,200 potential volunteer hours throughout Skyline’s communities across the country.
